Teen Paid Survey, Resources for Parents & SHACS!
May 11, 2022
Sex Ed For All Month is an opportunity to raise awareness and call for real investment in sex education in schools and communities across the country. Sex education gives young people age-appropriate, medically accurate information and answers to their questions about sex and relationships, without shame or judgment. Sex Ed For All Month is coordinated by the Sex Education Collaborative in collaboration with the Office of Population affairs (U.S. HHS) the national coalition of sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations committed to ensuring equitable and accessible sex education for ALL young people nationwide.
Parent, SHACS, Schools: Know Your Rights & Resources
There is a lot of talk about parents rights lately, but this issue is not actually one of division. Polls show that 75% of adults, including 68% of those identifying as Republicans, support teaching “abstinence-plus” sex education.
Texas Is Ready has sex education resources for parents, students, SHACs, and more!
- Resources for Parents: Parents and community members can play an important role in advocating for high quality sex education. Learn more about how the process works and what you can do to advocate.
- Resources for SHACs: In 2020, for the first time in more than two decades, the State Board of Education revised the minimum curriculum standards that guide Health Education — the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS. You can read the drafts of the TEKS and the approved final version here.
- Resources for School Districts: In 2020, the State Board of Education revised the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health Education for the first time since the 1990s, fundamentally changing the map for adolescent health in the state. You can read the drafts of the TEKS and the approved final version here. Districts must implement these new TEKS by the 2022-23 school year. Get the resources for school districts.
- Resources for Students: Did you know that Ntarupt has hosted the Student Film Contest for the past seven years? Students from several DISD schools have won up to $1000 for creating videos that raise awareness of sex ed, consent, sexual assault, rape, and much more. Watch the Ntarupt 7th Annual Student Film Contest videos here.
Teens, Share Your Thoughts With this New Paid Survey
We Need Your Input: “Teen Sexual/Reproductive Health Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviors in Dallas County”
In partnership with UT-Arlington, we are conducting the first wave of a study to help us understand the impact of the Talk About It Dallas public awareness campaign in our community. This project consists of administering surveys to teens (ages 16-19) in Dallas County. We hope to understand who saw the TAID campaign ads as well as the sexual health knowledge, attitudes, and health-promoting behaviors of teens in Dallas County. This project has been reviewed and approved by the UTA Institutional Review Board. We are offering $10 gift cards to each teen! Click to take the survey in English or Spanish.
Ntarupt is proud to work in partnership with the University of Texas at Arlington and Dr. Kyrah Brown, a assistant professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. Her team is recruiting teenagers between 16 and 19 years old to participate in this research study. The purpose of this study is to understand what types of teen sexual and reproductive health information young people have seen in Dallas County recently and to understand teens’ knowledge and behaviors related to sexual and reproductive health, abstinence, and talking with parents/guardians about sexual/reproductive health.
This research study will help Dallas County organizations understand how to improve their programs to better serve teens and their families; and to prevent unintended teen pregnancy and poor health outcomes (e.g., sexually transmitted infections [STIs]).Read more about why this study is important and how your input will research benefit others, and yourself. https://utaedu.questionpro.com/a/TakeSurvey?tt=vREKqVBoPJs%3D
What do I get for participating?
Participants who complete the survey will receive a $10.00 e-gift card. You will still receive the $10 e-gift card if you skip questions that make you feel uncomfortable, but you must make it to the end of the survey. Your contact form and survey will be connected to determine authenticity, but your contact information will be permanently deleted at the end of the study.
